WHO WE ARE
The Butterfly Sanctuary is a Non-governmental organisation that was started by a team of development experts that sought address the plight of young mothers and vulnerable girls within the districts in Lesotho.
The organisation uses a holistic approach in tackling matters related to health, protection, livelihood and wellbeing of young adolescents and young adults.

OUR VISION
A world where every girl has the opportunity to achieve her fullest potential.
OUR MISSION
We restore hope and holistic living through alleviating poverty, illiteracy, injustice and life-threatening conditions leading to the social exclusion and vulnerability of girls.
The Why Behind What We Do
Due to a high poverty rate, there is increased vulnerability to various issues in Lesotho. The HIV/AIDS rate stands at 25%, while early pregnancies and marriages account for 19%. Unemployment affects 33% of the population.
Despite a commendable 97.8% youth education attendance rate, there are concerns about high school dropout rates, particularly at the secondary level (78.3% among 15-17-year-olds). Notably, female youth attendance (99.2%) exceeds that of males (95.6%), though gender-based violence (GBV) cases are a pressing concern, with 68% occurring among young mothers, some linked to denied inheritance rights.
This highlights our focus at the Butterfly Sanctuary Organization: addressing these issues for the most at-risk age group, empowering them as vital contributors to the nation.
